This is a genetic test for men that assesses the risk of developing prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and skin melanoma.
Based on personal risk level, it is possible to give scientific and practical personalised recommendations to prevent or detect cancer at an early stage when it is still treatable.
Recommended for men between the ages of 40-70, this test will show your likely individual risk of developing prostate cancer, colorectal cancer and skin cancer (melanoma) in comparison to the rest of the UK population within the next 10 years.
Will it show if I have cancer now?
Your results will not tell you whether you have cancer already, or whether you will definitely develop cancer, but will help identify whether you should take additional measures to prevent cancer in the future.
If you are experiencing any symptoms that could indicate that you have cancer, we recommend speaking to your GP as soon as possible.
What does the test include?
This test looks at tiny changes, or variants, within your genes. These small changes may be unique to you, or also appear in other people, and can increase the risk of developing diseases, reduce disease risk, or have no affect at all.
Comparing your changes to those of others, both with and without cancer, we can identify your relative risk of developing cancers compared to the general population in the UK.
Your saliva sample will be tested against:
– 121 genetic variants associated with prostate cancer;
– 91 genetic variants associated with colorectal cancer;
– 31 genetic variants associated with melanoma.
Your results will provide you with your individual risk of:
– prostate cancer compared to the rest of the male population;
– colorectal cancer compared to the rest of the population;
– melanoma compared to the rest of the population.
They will also show your likelihood of developing:
– prostate cancer in 10 years and risk assessment compared to a man with average genetic risk of your age;
– colorectal cancer in 10 years and risk assessment compared to a person with average genetic risk of your age;
– melanoma in 10 years and risk assessment compared to a person with average genetic risk of your age.
How does it work?
After you have paid for your test, you will be sent a link to complete an online form, to provide medical information about yourself and any known family history of cancer. You’ll receive a kit in the post with clear instructions on giving your saliva sample together with all the paperwork you need to sign, which you then post back to us. You only need to provide a spit (saliva) sample in the test tube provided – no blood is required.
The laboratory will analyse your saliva sample and you will be sent your results approximately 4 weeks later.
